That's just ducky

I'm participating in Angela's Show and Tail Tuesday meme featuring pets, animals, etc. I've posted these pictures before on two other blogs of mine (LOL) but since its been awhile and since I have some new friends here, thought I'd post them again (and its hard to come up with an entry every day for NaBloPoMo.

Mama and her 12 babies came to visit me one day when we still lived in Montana. I saw people slowing down outside and couldn't figure out what was going on until I peeked outside and saw them on my front yard. They were soooo cute!! I kept Mr. I'll Chase Away Anything That I Don't Like inside and grabbed my camera and took several pictures. They stayed there for a bit and then Mama started leading them back either home (there was a water ditch about 2 blocks from my house) or to graze at some other person's yard.

But we lived on a very busy street. She started strutting down towards the street with all the babies in line. When I realized where she was headed, I panicked and was afraid she and babies would get hit so I went and stood on the sidewalk and got cars to slow down while she crossed.

Just like God watches over us, Mama Duck watched over her babies.

Seeing them was a gift from God. It was about a month before we would be moving from Montana here and I just needed a reminder of how much He loved me. Thank you Lord!

So so so sweet. I have about 40 Mallard and Mallard Complex wild ducks that visit me twice a day. Why so many? Because like idiots we feed them cracked corn "Crack" being the operative word. They shovel that stuff up like they are addicted to it - and then they tell their friends who fly in for breakfast and dinner. Honestly. It's like we can set our watches to it. I'll have to tape them scurrying around to the different piles nipping at each other. It's hilarious. I'm still waiting for babies, but don't know if we'll get any. Crossing my fingers though.

Awww! How cute! I used to call my daughter 'baby duck' because she would follow me everywhere, just like in your pictures. Thank God you were there to help them across the road!

I love Mallards... They are so sweet and the males are gorgeous! What cute pictures of this little family and I'm so glad that you helped to take care of them. We had two that hatched a bunch of ducklings, but we think the coyotes picked them off... They disappeared and we were really sad! We had raised the adults from ducklings and named them Cheese and Quackers (Cheese must have been half mallard as she had the stripes, but was more yellow than brown.) Linda
